Ground Source Heating

To make the most of the land outside your house, ground source heat equipment can be installed to make savings on your bills and the global environment.

Pipes are buried in the ground outside your home where water is pumped around the pipes, absorbing the heat from the ground and passing it through to under-floor heating or a standard radiator system. This water is not as hot as that produced by a conventional boiler system and can be used as ready heated water that can be converted quicker through the boiler.

The ground source heat pump forces a mix of water and environmentally friendly anti freeze round the piping loop which collects heat energy as it passes under the ground. The temperature under the ground stays constant even in winter so this is an all year round service to your home.

Beneath the surface, the ground stays at a constant temperature, so a ground source heat pump can be used throughout the year - even in the middle of winter.

The length of the ground loop depends on the size of your home and the amount of heat you need. Longer pipe loops can draw more heat from the ground; the normal loops are laid flat or coiled in trenches about two metres deep. If space is a premium in your garden you can utilise a vertical loop to a depth of up to 100 metres.

The efficiency of a ground source heat pump is measured by a coefficient of performance (CoP) - the amount of heat it produces compared to the amount of electricity needed to run it.

We can advise you on everything to do with ground source heat pumping and what options are available for you.
